Course Objective
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the concept of disasters and their various types. It also seeks to enable students to conceptualize, from a critical sociological perspective, the social processes leading to disasters, the role of human factors in disaster occurrence, and the problem-solving processes related to disaster impacts as an integrated whole. Within this framework, the course emphasizes the importance of sustainability principles in disaster management, analyzing the interactions between social structures and policies aimed at mitigating disaster effects and enhancing societal resilience. A key objective is to equip students with the skills to contribute to building disaster-resilient and sustainable communities.
Brief Content of the Course
The topics covered in the course include various definitions and types of disasters, their occurrences globally and in Turkey, the role of social relationships and changes in the formation of disasters, the impacts of disasters on society, the short- and long-term social problems arising from disasters, and efforts to find solutions to these problems.
