Course Objective
The purpose of the Road Design Project course is to enable students to design highway projects based on field data in accordance with technical and engineering standards. Students practically learn key steps such as route selection, centerline alignment, cross-section development, and volume calculations. The course also enhances technical drawing skills and includes project reporting. Aligned with the course objectives, students are encouraged to develop environmentally sensitive solutions during road design, aiming to minimize ecological damage, conserve natural resources, and support sustainable transportation planning. This approach fosters awareness of creating projects that are both technically sound and environmentally responsible.
Brief Content of the Course
This course covers topics such as introduction to road projects and basic concepts, road classifications and geometric design criteria, use of mapping data in road projects, horizontal and vertical alignment design, curve design and transition curves, cross-section drawing, volume calculations and cut-fill analysis, setting-out techniques, civil structures, road drainage and slope arrangements, and project report preparation. Throughout the course, sustainability is emphasized as a core principle to minimize environmental impact, promote efficient use of natural resources, and develop durable infrastructure designs. The aim is to train individuals who can integrate technical knowledge with environmental awareness to create sustainable transportation projects.
