Course Objective
The main purpose of the philosophy of education course is to enable prospective teachers and individuals interested in education to develop a critical, philosophical and systematic perspective on the phenomenon of education. This course helps students think about the nature, purpose, value and methods of education, to recognize various philosophical approaches and to establish the relationship between these approaches and educational practices.
Brief Content of the Course
The philosophy of education course provides a philosophical perspective on what education is, its purpose, value and methods. Within the scope of this course, the relationship between philosophy and education is discussed and the basic concepts of philosophy of education are introduced. Basic educational philosophies such as idealism, realism, pragmatism, existentialism and reconstructionism are examined. In addition, the effects of these philosophies on the Turkish education system are discussed. Concepts such as the purpose of education, teacher-student relationship, knowledge and society are evaluated within a philosophical framework. The course aims to develop students' critical thinking skills and to approach basic problems related to education from a philosophical perspective.
