Course Objective
To provide the basic concepts and principles of strength of materials. To give an ability to calculate stresses and deformations of objects under external loadings. To give an ability to apply the knowledge of strength of materials on engineering applications and design problems.
Brief Content of the Course
Basic Concepts of Strength of Materials, Axial loading, Torsion, Pure Bending, Transverse Loading, Internal Forces, Transformation of Stress and Strain, Combined Loading and criteria of failure, Design of beams and shafts for strength, Deflection of beams by moment-area method. Energy methods, Columns.
