Course Objective

The aim of this course is to equip students with the ability to understand and analyze the sociological dimensions of the concept of rights. The course examines the social, cultural, and political context of rights, examining individual-society relations, social inequality, and issues of justice. Students will evaluate different types of rights, including fundamental human rights, social rights, economic rights, and cultural rights, from a sociological perspective, and will analyze the connection between rights and social structure, power relations, and state policies.
Throughout the course, students will discuss rights violations, struggles for rights, social movements, and legal regulations, drawing on examples from Turkey and around the world. They will translate theoretical knowledge into practice through academic research, literature review, and case studies. At the end of the course, students will graduate as individuals who can address the concept of rights within a sociological framework, analyze social problems, and develop solutions.
