Course Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive perspective on the fundamental concepts, historical development, ethical principles, theoretical approaches, and areas of practice of social work from a sociological perspective. The aim is to increase the capacity of individuals and communities to develop solutions to social problems faced by individuals and communities, guided by core values such as social justice, human rights, equality, and social responsibility. Within the scope of the course, students will familiarize themselves with social work interventions addressing contemporary social problems such as social exclusion, poverty, discrimination, migration, aging, disability, and domestic violence; they will analyze social work methods applied at the individual, family, group, and community levels. Furthermore, the roles and responsibilities of social workers, intervention processes, and ethical decision-making mechanisms will be comprehensively covered. The course aims to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and professional awareness; it aims to equip individuals aspiring to work in social work with the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for the field. Thus, students will be empowered to actively contribute to social change processes at both the micro (individual-family) and macro (society-policy) levels.
