Course Objective
The aim is for students to gain a general understanding of human history and its stages. At the same time, within this historical framework, it will be explained how people's characteristics and perceptions of identity have changed due to the conditions of the historical process. Furthermore, the course content aims to provide students with an opportunity to compare what was similar and different in different geographical areas during the same historical periods, thereby giving them an idea of how history can be read vertically and horizontally. It is an important objective of the course for students to gain insight into the reasons for interaction and conflict between civilizations (religious, political, ethnic, cultural, etc.).
Brief Content of the Course
The course begins by discussing the fundamental concepts of the discipline of history, the basic concepts related to civilization (or culture), the conceptual framework, and the limitations of the course. It then proceeds to examine the Neolithic Civilizations, Egypt, Ancient Greece, India, Iran, the Central Asian steppe culture, the ancient Turkish civilization, and Roman Civilizations, referred to as great civilizations, will be covered in outline form. Subsequently, the emergence of monotheistic religions and the civilizations established through them will be addressed, with the Islamic religion and civilization being covered in greater detail across a broader scope and time frame. In particular, the significance of the Turkic-Islamic civilization for humanity and the fundamental characteristics of the states and societies within this civilization will be examined in greater detail.
