The Department of Food Engineering Held Its Graduation Ceremony for the 2025–2026 Academic Year


The Department of Food Engineering’s 2025–2026 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony was held with the participation of faculty members, students, and their families. During the ceremony, diplomas were presented to the graduating students, and the event concluded with the traditional cap-tossing ceremony. On behalf of the Department of Food Engineering, we congratulate all our graduates and wish them success in their professional careers.

Our Faculty Member’s Success in the TÜBİTAK 2218 Domestic Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program


Dr. Katibe Sinem Coruk, Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Engineering, has been awarded funding by TÜBİTAK for her project titled “Evaluation of Sesame Hull Byproducts Generated During Tahini Production as Functional Food Ingredients Within a Zero-Waste Approach,” has been awarded funding by TÜBİTAK. We congratulate our faculty member on this project, which will be conducted at the Department of Food Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, and wish her continued success in her work.

Food Awareness, Public Health


The NOHU Food Engineering Club shared the details and future goals of the “Food Awareness, Public Health” project which was accepted as part of the 6th UNIKOP Regional Project at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University. We would like to thank the club’s academic advisor, Dr. Katibe Sinem Coruk, and the club president, graduate student Cansel Murat.

Unikop Social Contribution Workshop


The Unikop Social Contribution Workshop was held at the Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Culture and Congress Center. As the Food Engineering Club, we participated in the workshop, which focused on new approaches to social contribution.

Associate Professor Emre Yavuzer, Faculty Member of the Food Engineering Department, Receives TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1507 Support


Our university's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Food Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Emre Yavuzer, in collaboration with his company at Teknopark Inc., has developed “PRODUCTION OF PREMIUM SEAFOOD SNACKS USING VACUUM-ASSISTED INFRARED PULSE DRYING TECHNOLOGY” project, developed in collaboration with his company at Teknopark Inc., has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1507 Support Program.

Our Social Contributions as the Food Engineering Department continue. An educational program on “Food Safety and Label Development” was conducted by our faculty member, Assistant Professor Betül OSKAYBAŞ EMLEK.


Within the scope of the Women's Cooperatives Empowerment Cooperation Protocol, training activities for women's cooperatives continue in line with the Work Plan prepared in cooperation with our Provincial Directorate, the Provincial Directorate of Trade, and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. Within this scope, in cooperation with the Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Social Contribution Coordination, Dr. Betül OSKAYBAS EMLEK, Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Engineering, conducted training on “Food Safety and Label Development” for representatives of women's cooperatives. The training covered hygiene and safety principles in food production processes, labeling requirements within the framework of food legislation, consumer information, and label development to increase the marketability of products. Our trainer was presented with a “Certificate of Appreciation” by our Deputy Director Çetin TUTAŞ.

Food Engineering Department Advisory Board External Stakeholder Meeting Held


The Advisory Board Meeting organized by the Food Engineering Department was held on December 8, 2025, with the participation of our department faculty, students, alumni, and industry stakeholders. The meeting addressed important issues related to the development of the department's education and training processes. The topics discussed were as follows: Evaluation of the current course plan and course content, Receiving new course proposals in line with industry needs, Sharing the shortcomings graduates encounter in the business world and proposed solutions, Evaluating opportunities for collaboration to increase practical training opportunities. The meeting concluded with the evaluation of the opinions and suggestions received from stakeholders in a way that will contribute to the quality of education in the department.

Career Day and Alumni Reunion Event


The Career Day and Alumni Reunion event organized by our department was held on December 8, 2025, with the participation of our department faculty, students, and alumni. Speaking at the event, our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Hasan Tangüler, emphasized the importance of personal and professional development and stated that the Department always provides support to students so that they can continue their education in the most effective way possible. In addition, our alumni working at Abalıoğlu, Quality Assurance Specialist Oktay Keskin, Quality Assurance Specialist Berk Kapcak, and Production Engineer Furkan İlman, participated in our event and shared their professional experiences with our students, providing valuable information about the challenges that may be encountered in working life and ways to overcome these challenges. We would like to thank our graduates for their participation and contributions.

The World Food Day event organized at our university by Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Niğde Provincial Directorate of National Education, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, and Faculty of Engineering was held on October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Hall 1071 of the Congress and Culture Center.

Integrated Management Systems Information Training

First-Place Award at the 3rd R&D and Project Market Days Event


Our students Sinem Akalın and Sinem Gökal, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer and Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, received the first-place award with their project titled "Production of Soft Candy Enriched with Fish Gelatin-Based Hibiscus Extracts" at the 3rd R&D and Project Market Days event hosted by our University. We congratulate our students and their advisors.

Our research project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A program, has been published in an international journal.


Under the supervision of Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, a Research Assistant in our Department of Food Engineering, the article titled “Chitosan films tailored with deep eutectic solvent extracts from Hibiscus sabdariffa: Fabrication and characterization” by Food Engineering student Hasan Nazım Sürmeli, supported by the TÜBİTAK 2209-A Student Projects Program during the 2021 1st Term Call, has been published in an SCI-E indexed journal in the Q1 category.

A university student has produced a gluten-free cake from lupin flour.


A 3rd-year student from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University's Food Engineering Department, Sinem Gökal, has produced a gluten-free cake for celiac patients.

Our research project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A program, has been published in an international journal.


Our project numbered 1919B012222127, accepted under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program, has been published in the Journal of Food Measurement and Characterization (Q2 category). Titled "Use of Waste Fermented Black Carrot Powder Dried by Different Methods as a Substitute in Noodle Production," this study presents innovative approaches to re-evaluating waste materials in food production. Congratulations to the students and faculty members of our department on their accomplishment, and we wish them continued success.

16 October World Food Day


Our World Food Day event, held on October 16th with the theme "Food Rights for a Better Life and a Better Future," was organized by our Food Engineering Club. The event was attended by our esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Murat Barut, Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. Metin Hakan Severcan, our department’s faculty members and students, as well as students from the Food Analysis Department of Bor Vocational School, along with their faculty members, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Boğa and Assoc. Prof. Fulden Karadal. Additionally, our Animal Production Club participated. Technical Visit


A technical trip to GÖKNUR Fruit Juice Factory was organized by our Food Engineering Club on 27.05.2024. Our second and third year students and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Baltacıoğlu, Research Assist. Dr. Mehmet Yetişen and Club Academic Advisor Research Assist. Katibe Sinem Coruk participated. We would like to thank Food Engineer Emre Karaaslan and Ayşenur Terzi for providing technical information about the production and the devices used in the factory and İlkyaz Baltacı for hosting us during our factory visit.

In the training organized for graduate students within the Central Research Laboratory between 20-24 May 2024, our Department Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU gave training on “FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy”.

Abalıoğlu Yem Sanayi A.Ş. paid a visit to the Department of Food Engineering. During the visit, discussions were held between our department and Abalıoğlu Yem Sanayi A.Ş. regarding university-industry cooperation. In this direction, Human Resources Manager Hasan Başkal and Production Manager Hulusi Günter and department academic staff exchanged views and shared information on R&D issues within the scope of bilateral cooperation.

TUBITAK Support for One More Project of Our Department


The project titled "Determination of Quality Levels of Fish Oils Obtained from Trout Residues through Machine Learning and Electronic Nose," led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer from the Department of Food Engineering, with the participation of Instructor Dilek Yaprak Uslu from the Vocational School of Social Sciences, Department of Culinary Arts, and Research Assistant Mehmet Yetişen as a scholarship holder, has been awarded support within the scope of TÜBİTAK ARDEP 1002-A. The project aims to produce functional fish oil from waste fish heads generated intensively in the trout processing process in the region and the country, and to determine the quality parameters associated with it.
