This course aims to teach the principles of statics and mechanics in engineering applications. The course covers topics such as units of measurement and engineering conversions, scalar and vector quantities, force components and resultant force calculations, moment calculations of forces, support reactions and load transfers of statically determinate (isostatic) beams, static analysis techniques and structural analysis methods, as well as the types of loads on structures and their effects. Throughout the course, students will gain the ability to conduct static analysis in engineering projects and perform applied analyses.

The aim of this course is to teach students the technical drawing rules used in the construction industry and to equip them with the competence to produce project-based drawings. This course covers the rules for preparing technical drawings and drafting techniques in the construction sector. Topics such as basic drawing techniques, scaling, plan, section, and elevation drawings, detail drawings, structural element drawings, and technical drawings of building projects are covered. By developing their skills in reading and creating projects, students will gain the ability to practically apply these skills in the construction industry.

This course provides knowledge on ecological building materials that comply with sustainability principles by evaluating the environmental impacts of traditional and modern materials used in the construction sector. It develops students' skills in evaluating building materials in terms of their environmental impact, life cycle, recyclability, and energy efficiency.

Topics examined include green building terminology, ecological design principles, energy efficiency, water conservation, daylighting, material selection, and life-cycle analysis. Additionally, national and international green building certification systems (LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, ÇEDBİK, etc.) are introduced. Students' awareness of sustainable building design is developed through the evaluation of green building application examples from Turkey, smart building technologies, and nature-compatible design approaches (such as biomimicry and permaculture).

It provides students with an overview of the current applications and future trends in renewable energy technologies.

Within the scope of the course, the concept, history, and importance of the carbon footprint; greenhouse gas sources; measurement methods and units; and Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions within the framework of the GHG Protocol are covered. Additionally, individual, corporate, and product-based carbon footprint calculation approaches, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), energy efficiency, renewable energy usage, transportation, and waste management strategies are addressed. Carbon offsetting projects, carbon credits, national and international reporting standards (ISO 14064, GHG Protocol), as well as sustainable living practices and future-oriented approaches are discussed.

Fundamental principles of heat, moisture, and airflow in the building envelope; heat conduction, convection, and radiation, vapor diffusion and condensation analysis, airtightness, and thermal bridges. Insulation materials and high-performance detail solutions in the context of energy efficiency and sustainability; evaluation of comfort through daylighting/lighting and fundamental acoustic principles; and compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., TS 825).

This course covers the historical development of occupational health and safety, the economic and social costs of occupational accidents and occupational diseases, the concept of occupational safety, the fundamental elements of occupational safety, sources of hazards, the concept of occupational health, psycho-social and physical risk factors, incidents that compromise safety (such as fire, etc.), and penal sanctions. Additionally, it examines approaches to ensuring sustainability in occupational health and safety practices, developing a safe working culture, and creating sustainable work environments.

By carrying out a research process under the supervision of an advisor, students will gain the ability to develop solutions to problems in the field of green and ecological buildings and acquire academic reporting skills.

Within the scope of the course, topics such as water conservation techniques, industrial and urban water management, principles of wastewater collection and treatment, as well as water reclamation and reuse methods are addressed.

This course covers the fundamental principles of soil mechanics and foundation engineering. Students will gain knowledge about soil properties, classification, bearing capacity, foundation types, and sustainable geotechnical solutions for green buildings. By conveying the core principles of soil mechanics and foundation engineering, this course provides engineering candidates with a critical theoretical background. Students taking the course learn to accurately classify the soil layers on which structures will rest by examining the engineering properties of soils in depth. Throughout the course, the mathematical and physical relationships between different foundation types and the bearing capacity of soils are comprehensively addressed. Students acquire knowledge about modern and sustainable geotechnical solution methods in order to build eco-friendly green structures.

Fundamental concepts, parameters, and evaluation methods related to indoor environmental quality in buildings are covered. Pollutants affecting indoor air quality, as well as criteria for thermal comfort, ventilation, lighting, and acoustic comfort, are examined. Measurement and analysis methods, monitoring approaches using building automation systems, and practices aimed at improving indoor environmental quality are evaluated.

This course covers the management of sustainable energy resources, the formation and implementation of energy policies, energy efficiency strategies, and energy management in green buildings. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to analyze local and global energy policies and to produce sustainable solutions through an understanding of renewable energy systems and energy management strategies.

This course covers the fundamental principles, management units, and operational processes of office and construction site organization in construction projects within the framework of sustainability principles. The course includes construction site organization, job descriptions, workflow, time scheduling, cost control, material and equipment management, resource efficiency, communication, and reporting processes. In addition, occupational safety, legal responsibilities, sustainable project management concepts, and the management of environmental impacts are discussed. Students’ project management and sustainable practice skills are improved through the preparation of site layout plans, development of project schedules, and analysis of sample applications.

This course aims to evaluate the environmental impacts of products, structures, or processes using a life cycle approach, which is one of the three most important pillars of sustainability.The concept, scope, and basic principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are examined within the framework of ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. The stages of raw material extraction, production, use, maintenance, disposal, recycling, and reuse are analyzed. The course covers LCA process steps (goal and scope definition, inventory analysis, impact assessment, and interpretation) through practical examples. In addition, eco-design, sustainable product development, and LCA applications in building and energy systems are discussed.
Compulsory YEB2004 GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATION SYSTEMS 2 1 3
This course introduces national and international certification systems used to evaluate green buildings within the framework of sustainability principles. Systems such as LEED, BREEAM, DGNB, EDGE, ÇEDBİK, and YeS-TR are examined in terms of their purpose, scope, evaluation criteria, and scoring methods. Key criteria such as energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, material selection, waste management, and user comfort are discussed. In addition, the certification process, documentation, auditing steps, system comparisons, and examples of certified green building projects are analyzed to develop students’ abilities to assess sustainable buildings.

This course covers quantity take-off and cost calculation techniques in construction projects. Topics such as quantity take-off calculation methods, construction cost analysis, surveying and entitlement arrangement, budget planning, cost control techniques, financial management processes in construction projects are covered. Students will gain practical skills in cost calculation and budgeting in construction projects.

Climate-responsive design principles in the context of sustainable architecture; site, orientation and form. Heat transfer basics; steady-state energy balance; U-value and thermal-bridge (ψ/χ) assessment (EN ISO 6946, 10211). Moisture transport, vapour diffusion and interstitial condensation risk (EN ISO 13788); airtightness and blower-door fundamentals. High-performance envelope assemblies: ETICS, ventilated façades, sandwich walls; flat/steep/green roofs; floors, foundations, balconies and window-to-wall interfaces; fire-stopping of insulation layers. Insulation materials (EPS, XPS, mineral wool, PUR/PIR, phenolic foam, aerogel, VIP, reflective systems) and selection criteria (λ, μ, fire class, environmental impact). Daylighting and solar control (shading, glazing and frame performance); natural and hybrid ventilation; thermal mass; summer comfort. In line with the goal of designing sustainable buildings, the course will cover HVAC fundamentals and psychrometry; heating/cooling loads; boiler-burner, chiller, heat pump, cooling tower and distribution systems (air/water); automation and BMS; ventilation-IAQ, heat recovery; energy performance indicators and standards (TS EN ISO 52016, 52120, etc.); measurement/verification, energy audit and savings measures; renewable integration; life cycle cost and carbon accounting; case studies and field/workshop applications. Students will gain the technical and practical skills to contribute to sustainable buildings by mastering the basic principles of high-efficiency HVAC systems.

Elective YEB2036 GREEN ROOFS 2 1 4
This course examines the concept of green roofs, their historical development, and their role in sustainable architecture. Different types of green roof systems—intensive, extensive, and semi-intensive—are discussed along with their layer structures, waterproofing, root barriers, drainage systems, substrate properties, and plant selection. The course also evaluates the contributions of green roofs to energy efficiency, rainwater management, reduction of the heat island effect, and their environmental and economic benefits. Through analysis of local and international project examples, students develop appropriate green roof solutions for ecological building designs.

This course aims to define the energy system that balances climate dynamics on a global scale and to learn about and examine anthropogenic and natural impacts and global climate change. The course content consists of the following topics: Fundamentals of climate change; identification of climate components that directly affect sustainability; changes in climate components; effects of natural and anthropogenic impacts on the climate system; sustainability, greenhouse gas effects, greenhouse gas reduction; impacts of climate change; climate models.
