Grade Evaluation
Passing Grade

Exam scores are evaluated out of 100 to determine a passing score. Success in a course is determined by the passing grade. The passing grade is determined by evaluating the mid-term grade achieved for the work completed during the semester in that course together with the passing grade achieved on the final exam administered at the end of the semester. The work completed during the semester includes attendance at courses and practical exercises, fieldwork, practical applications, homework assignments, projects, internships, workshops, seminars, laboratories, and similar activities. In determining a student's passing grade, these activities may be evaluated along with a mid-term exam, scheduled in the last week of the semester as specified in the academic calendar. The passing grade of the final exam can have a minimum contribution of 40% and a maximum contribution of 60% to the course passing grade. The instructor responsible for the course will inform students within the first two weeks of the semester about the contribution of the mid-term and final exam grades, as well as the method used to determine the passing grade.
A relative evaluation system is used in calculating the passing grade. Relative assessment takes into account the arithmetic average and statistical distribution of the course grades received by all students enrolled in that course. The Senate determines the application principles of the relative assessment system.

Course grades and their coefficients are determined as follows:

Success Grade Coefficients (in letter form):

AA 4.00
BA 3.50
BB 3.00
CB 2.50
CC 2.00
DC 1.50
DD 1.00
FD 0.50
FF 0.00

Success Grades:

a) S: Pass in non-credit courses,
b) U: Fail in non-credit courses,
c) P: Pass in annual courses at the end of the first semester,
d) EX: Pass on the exemption exam administered by the university,
e) NI: Grade for courses not included in the weighted average,
f) NA: Fail due to failure to meet the attendance and/or practice requirements and therefore ineligibility to take the final exams,
g) T: The grade for the transferred course.

A student who receives a grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, S, or EX in a course is considered to have passed that course. A student who receives a grade of DC or DD in one or more courses is considered to have passed that course(s) if their academic average for all courses registered for, as recorded on the course registration form in the semester in which the course was taken, is 2.00 or higher.
A T grade is given to students transferring from other departments of the university or from another university for courses previously taken and whose equivalence is deemed by the faculty/college board upon the recommendation of the department head. It is not included in the calculation of academic grade point average.

Academic Average

Students' academic standing is determined by calculating their semester average and overall academic average. The multiplication of a course's credits by the coefficient of the final grade received in that course gives the course's weighted grade.
The semester average is calculated by dividing the total weighted grades of the courses required for that semester on the curriculum by the total credits of those courses. Annual courses are included in the spring semester academic average.
The overall academic average is calculated by dividing the total weighted grades, calculated based on the student's success grades from all required courses during their studies, by the total credits of the courses taken.
When calculating the academic average, two decimal places are added. When the number in the third decimal place is 5 or greater, the number in the second decimal place is increased by one.
Minor, double-major courses, and courses in which S and T grades are earned despite being included in the curriculum are not considered in the academic average calculation. If a student repeats a course, the most recent grade from that course is included in the academic average. Students may retake courses in which they received grades DD, DC, or CC to improve their academic averages. Their most recent grades in these courses will be included in their academic average.
