Course Objective

Brief Content of the Course

Within the scope of this course, the fundamental mechanisms of pathological processes will be examined in detail. Initially, emphasis will be placed on cellular injury, cellular adaptation mechanisms, and cell death processes (necrosis and apoptosis). Fluid-electrolyte balance and the pathogenesis of edema will be explored in depth, and in this context, hemodynamic disorders and their systemic effects will be evaluated. The pathophysiology of nutritional disorders and their effects on metabolic processes will also be addressed.
In relation to the immune system’s role in disease, mechanisms of inflammation, amyloidosis, connective tissue diseases, and immunopathological processes will be discussed in detail. Wound healing will be analyzed from both biological and clinical perspectives, with a focus on tissue regeneration and repair processes. Mechanisms of carcinogenesis and the concept of neoplasia will be presented, providing fundamental knowledge of tumor biology and oncological processes.
With respect to oral and maxillofacial pathology, pulpal and periodontal diseases, odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts and tumors, salivary gland pathologies, stomatitis, and white lesions of the oral mucosa will be addressed in detail. Current diagnostic and prognostic approaches to premalignant lesions and oral cancers will be emphasized. The etiopathogenesis, clinical characteristics, and differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions and vesiculobullous diseases will also be discussed.

The primary objective of this course is to enable students to comprehend the pathological processes observed in the oral and maxillofacial region, to understand their etiology, pathogenesis, clinical, and histopathological characteristics, and to integrate this knowledge into clinical diagnosis and treatment planning.
