OUR HISTORY
Our university was founded under the name of Niğde University in accordance with the Annex 22 of the Law numbered 3837 published in the Official Gazette dated July 11, 1992 and numbered 21281. The School of Education (1974) in Niğde which was affiliated with Selçuk University was turned into the Faculty of Education by incorporating Niğde Vocational School (1974), the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (1987) and Aksaray Vocational School (1986). In accordance with the same law, The Faculty of Science and Letters, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, the School of Physical Education and Sports, the Graduate School of Social Sciences and the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences were established in Niğde, and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Ortaköy Vocational School were established in Aksaray.
Bor Vocational School, established in 1992 as affiliated with Selçuk University, was affiliated with our university in 1993 and Niğde Zübeyde Hanım Vocational School of Health Services (1993), Ulukışla Vocational School (1994) and Çamardı Vocational School (1995) were opened.
The Faculty of Education (1996), The School of Physical Education and Sports (1996), Şereflikoçhisar Vocational School (1997) and Faculty of Science and Letters (1999) were opened in Aksaray.
Niğde Zübeyde Hanım School of Health Services (1996), Bor Halil Zöhre Ataman Vocational School (1999) and Turkish Music State Conservatory (2000) were established.
All faculties and schools in Aksaray and its districts within the body of our university, together with their students and staff, were affiliated with Aksaray University, which was established in 2006.
Çamardı Vocational School (2005) was closed and, its departments and students were transferred to Ulukışla Vocational School. Niğde Vocational School was divided into two in 2009 as Niğde Vocational School of Social Sciences and Niğde Vocational School of Technical Sciences and, the School of Foreign Languages was established in 2010. The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was turned into two separate faculties in 2010 as the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture. In addition, the Graduate School of Educational Sciences (2011), the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies (2011), the Faculty of Communication (2011), the Faculty of Islamic Sciences (2014), the Faculty of Medicine (2015) and the Faculty of Fine Arts (2016) were established.
To pass on the heroism and name of Senior Sergeant Major Ömer Halisdemir, who was martyred while fighting to prevent the treacherous coup attempt targeting the survival of the State of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Nation, to future generations, and to make a mark on history, our university has been named Ömer Halisdemir University in accordance with the Article 20 of the Law numbered 6745 and dated September 7, 2016 and the name our city has also been added and it has been Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University in accordance with the Article 24 of the Law numbered 7033 and dated July 1, 2017.
The Graduate School of Health Sciences (2018), Bor Faculty of Health Sciences (2018), the Faculty of Dentistry (2019), the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences were closed, and the Faculty of Sports Sciences (2019) was established.
Currently, our university continues its education-training and research-development activities with 13 faculties, 2 schools, 1 conservatory, 4 graduate schools, 6 vocational schools and 15 research and application centers.
